American History
The National Neon Sign Museum is dedicated to providing a dynamic and entertaining environment that promotes an understanding and appreciation of advertising and signage — and the unique role it has played in American history.
We present historical, social, and cultural relevance through the exhibition of more than 20,000 square feet of electrifying signs, ephemera, and interactive displays that date from the late 1800s through the 1960s.
Offering a family-friendly, hands-on, and fresh approach to the modern museum, the NNSM presents one of the most outstanding collections of American advertising, signage, and ephemera in the nation.
Our Building
The Historic Elks Building
On April 3, 2015, the City of The Dalles, Oregon gifted the historic Elks Building at 200 East 3rd Street to be used for the National Neon Sign Museum.
The museum opened for tours in August 2018. The preservation and renewal of this historic building along the Columbia Gorge provides a world-class museum and venue to promote education and increase tourism for local and regional businesses.
Situated in the heart of The Dalles, the NNSM is uniquely positioned to offer visitors an unparalleled glimpse into the story of American commercial design and culture.
